But if their claim is not one that can be refuted, then it’s the media who misreported their words, over and over and over again. Deliberately? When you put your name on something, you have responsibility to make sure it is accurate. The FBI KNEW since 2019 the laptop was authentic. These "security experts" who all for some reason still have security clearances had no access to that fact? They had numerous opportunities to apologize. Brennan point blank said no.
In the key part of the letter they specifically disavow knowing anything. They are voicing suspicions, nothing more than that:

Now, if you want to say this whole effort was a massive setup, engineered by the DNC so the intelligence officials get to keep their hands clean while the media runs with a bogus story that can be plausibly defended as an honest mistake, fine. I’m probably with you there. But as with a lot of these things, Joe Voter doesn’t read the fine print on page 47. As I say, even Trump read the press accounts and believed them
Weeeelllll my point was kind of that they didn’t lie, as i understood it, they didn’t question the authenticity of the laptop (that I have seen), what looked suspicious to them was its sudden appearance at a convenient time for political gain.
However it was interpreted, they lied. They KNEW the laptop was authentic and warred against the American people by helping rig an election.
